How it all started
Tassie Timber Things started with a love of timber.
"It was not until around the age fourteen that I discovered my love of timber. Grade 9 High School woodwork opened my eyes to the possibilities.
Working with wood became a bit of a passion that was never really pursued. There was only the continual DIY projects and occasional products to sell at the local markets with Mum and Dad. We bought packs of Radiata Pine and Dad and I made bookshelves and chests of draws for our family. I had learnt to make roll top bread bins at school, so we made them too to sell at Evandale Markets. I also adapted the design and made myself a large roll top desk.
It was not until 2015 that I started working with a local craftsman with the goal of learning the art of wood turning. This led to starting to turn small items such as timber pens and knife handles for the tourist market in Tasmania. Now the market has widened to include other things made from beautiful Tasmanian timbers, and other materials as stated on the home page." Simon
